School Committee & City Council Endorsements

September 22, 2017 Leave a Comment

Dear Colleagues,

This week the Malden Education Association Executive Board met to discuss and vote on completed candidate questionnaires that we received from candidates for School Committee (Wards 2, 3, and 7) and City Council (Councillor-At-Large and Ward 6). After much thought and discussion, the Malden Education Association Executive Board is pleased to announce they have voted to endorse the following candidates:

Ward 2 School Committee Emmanuel Marsh
Ward 3 School Committee Jennifer Spadafora
Ward 7 School Committee Catherine Bordonaro

Ward 6 City Councillor David Camell
City Councillor-At-Large Debbie DeMaria
City Councillor-At-Large Steve Winslow

Each of these candidates has demonstrated their support for public education by taking strong stances on punitive high stakes testing, advocating for the Fair Share Amendment, and by standing with educators during last year’s “No On 2” campaign by helping us educate the public that charter schools siphon money from public schools, remove local control, and create a separate and unequal education for many of our students. We look forward to working with these candidates to advocate for student opportunity, student success, and the support of high quality teachers.

In Solidarity,
Deb Gesualdo
President, Malden Education Association
